Public Engagement

The advent of digitalization has brought about substantial changes in socioeconomic and political landscapes. The integration of digital technologies has transformed the nature of work, creating an escalating demand for STEM competences. However, the “She Figures 2021” report underscores gender disparities in STEM. Women’s representation among doctoral graduates in these fields consistently remains low at 22.4%. The presence of a glass ceiling effect, marked by structural impediments like discrimination and gender bias, further impedes women’s progression into top-tier decision-making and managerial roles. Insights from the World Intellectual Property Organization reveal that, despite a slight increase in the share of women inventors globally over the past decade, they constitute only 16.2% of all inventors.

Regardless of the valuable perspectives and talents women bring to the table, there is still an elephant in the room left unaddressed: the limited involvement of women in R&I, leading to a disproportionately low number of women benefiting from these endeavours. The public engagement activities led by the PI aim to advance women’s representation in the STEM. The initiatives are designed to encourage greater participation of girls in these fields and enhance the visibility of women actively engaged in STEM.
